Director’s Bio
Devine Carama is a nationally renowned, 2022 Emmy Award-winning hip-hop artist, author, educator, community activist, & motivational speaker from Lexington, KY. He was most recently featured on Good Morning America and the Jennifer Hudson Show after a video of him teaching emotional intelligence to young boys went viral. He is the new director of the Mayor of Lexington's youth and young adult gun violence reduction program, ONE Lexington, which has launched several new initiatives in its first 5 years under his direction. 2023, 2024, and 2025 saw a considerable drop in homicides and shootings in Lexington, and that progress continues in 2026. Devine wrote and released his first book, “Pages Full of Rhymes,” in 2023, which features over 100 verses from Devine's 20-year hip-hop career.
From 2004 to 2013, Devine used music to create community spaces where other artists could perform. Notably, he hosted and curated popular local events, including Poetry In Motion, Brown Sugar, The Slow Jam, Neo Soul Nights, and Soulbrations. In 2014, Devine officially launched his youth-centered nonprofit, Believing In Forever Inc. In 2017, Believing In Forever led a citywide effort to collect and deliver thousands of gallons of water to combat the Flint water crisis. In December of 2018, Devine suffered frostbite after performing his music for 48 hours straight outdoors in the cold to raise awareness of his annual youth coat drive, "A Coat to Keep The Cold Away". Over the past 12 years, Believing In Forever has facilitated the collection and delivery of more than 28,000 coats to children in Central and Eastern Kentucky. In 2019, despite not having a college degree, Devine was featured at the University of Kentucky, where he taught a credited course called “Lyricism & Leadership: Hip-Hop & Community Change”. In 2020, Devine walked across the entire state of Kentucky (Pikeville to Paducah) to raise voter awareness. He was also on the front lines of the protests for Breonna Taylor and George Floyd in Lexington and Louisville, KY. As a motivational speaker, Devine has presented to more than 500,000 students nationwide on topics such as leadership, community service, the power of words, and more!
