"What Black History Month Means To Me" Essay Contest Winners

Last year, FCPS student, Kamaria Spaulding, passed away in a tragic car accident. In the summer of 2020, Believing In Forever Inc. launched "The Luna Library" in her memory which is a FREE mobile library where we offer African American & black character-focused fiction books to children in the Lexington community.

In the month of February, we launched our "What Black History Means To Me" Essay Contest. This opportunity was available to FCPS students currently in grades 6-8. Students registered a book from #TheLunaLibrary and wrote an essay based on the book. We had over 20 submissions and last weekend we honored the top 6 essays (winners listed below) Our participants won FREE food baskets from Black Soil, gift cards from Joseph Beth Bookstore,Amazon Fire 8 Tablets, and more! Starting next week, we will feature and highlight each essay that was submitted on a daily basis! Check out some images below and make sure you come back and read some amazing essays next week!
